The Schenectady Clergy Against Hate group sponsored a Thanksgiving prayer service and community-building event at the Sikh temple, Guru Nanak Darbar of Albany, Nov. 19. Schenectady Clergy Against Hate is a coalition of leaders from a variety of faiths dedicated to addressing the growing level of hatred in society. Sikh leader PAUL UPPAL said: "More than ever before, our different faith communities need to pray together, share our beliefs and values with each other, and learn from each other. Our diversity can serve as a strength as we share and spread the love that lies within us all"....

Since Catholic chaplain MARIE VENAGLIA has retired from Our Lady of Mercy Life Center in Guilderland, Catholic volunteers are being sought to serve as eucharistic ministers, visit and/or transport residents to services and activities and share a hobby, skill, craft or music. A retired Siena College sociology professor received a national prize for his article about a Catholic priest and civil rights activist. DR. PAUL MURRAY received the inaugural MSGR. HARRY C. KOENIG article prize for "The Most Righteous White Man in Selma: FATHER MAURICE OUELLET and the Struggle for Voting Rights," which was published in the January 2015 issue of The Alabama Review. Dr. Murray will be presented with the award in January 2018 at the annual meeting of the American Catholic Historical Association in Washington, D.C. Father Ouellet worked behind the scenes supporting African-American voting rights in the 1960s. Dr. Murray is planning to develop the articles into a book....

RUSSELL PIPER was recently promoted to the position of union foreman for Albany Diocesan Cemeteries....
