Church springs into action when disaster strikes One of the problems our Church faces today is lack of attendance at Mass. God has asked us all to attend Mass every Sunday. Some people ignore His command and think it’s okay not to go! It is a sin and disobeying the third commandment. Some ways this problem can be resolved are by putting different churches on television commercials. A lot of people watch television, so maybe seeing a church on television will remind them to go. Another way to get people to go to church could be to send postcards to remind people of upcoming Masses. If there is a Mass for something a person wants to pray for, they might attend. One more way could be to put broadcasts about church on the radio. People driving their car on Sunday or during the week might drive over to the church to go to Mass because they heard about it on the radio. Even though many people don’t attend Mass, God forgives them and still loves them. When a disaster happens, our Church acts as a community to help. A few months ago, when Hurricane Katrina hit the south, the Church sprang into action. People donated food, clothing, money and anything they could give to the victims. Everyone joined together in schools, churches, neighborhood and communities to help others. Vans filled with items were sent there by people in our Church community. Many more people attended Mass to pray for the victims. Little by little, our Church has helped save some of the people in the south from thirst and mass starvation. Another time when our Church came together to help others was during the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center. The Church raised money to help, donated many items to families and prayed for families that had lost loved ones. Our Church is a community, a group of friends, a neighborhood, and a close family. We’re here to support each other in times of happiness, and in times of disaster and sadness. Overall, our Church is a welcoming and warm place where people of all races join together to help others who are less fortunate. We strive to live as Jesus has asked us to. By doing so, we learn to love each other more each day. (11/10/05) |
