Bulletin As The Evangelist went to press, Mary Jo White issued a third letter, dated May 25, to John Aretakis. In it, she writes: "I was very disappointed to hear that...you moved back to insisting on what is basically a 'town meeting' with me concerning the investigation. This is contrary to what you told our investigator on [May 21]....We do not see how a town meeting...that does not even include an interview of the people who made the allegations...will advance the investigation, and we continue to believe that it is inappropriate to publicly discuss the investigation before it is concluded....I also renew my offer to meet with you at anytime and anywhere, including nights or weekends, in Albany or New York City. Postponing any meeting until mid-June, as you proposed,...is an unnecessary delay....We have made every effort to accommodate the various, and changing, conditions you have set on cooperating with the investigation. We sincerely hope that you will now decide to cooperate....If we do not hear from you by Thursday, May 27, 2004, we will conclude regretfully that you have declined to cooperate." (5/27/04) |
