Interfaith group reacts An interfaith group of two priests, three rabbis, two lay leaders involved in Jewish-Christian dialogue and a representative of the United Jewish Federation issued this statement after seeing "The Passion of the Christ" together: "While we might not agree with some of the film's historical representation, nevertheless, the work is an interpretation of the importance of the suffering (passion) of Jesus. We came out thinking that, because we live in a pluralistic society, the film in and of itself should not foster anti-Semitism in our community....We look forward to deepening...dialogue in the spirit of mutual respect." The signers included Rev. James Kane, director of the Albany Diocese's Office for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs. (3/4/04) |
