Training in abuse prevention continues

"Protection of God's Children," developed by Virtus, a division of the National Risk Retention Group, has been selected by the Albany Diocese as its educational program for the prevention of child sexual abuse.

The program has three main objectives: awareness of child sexual abuse, knowing the signs of child sexual abuse and knowing what to do if child sexual abuse is suspected. The ultimate goal is to provide safe environments for children and young people.

In January, 40 people received special training so they could bring the educational program to all employees and volunteers ministering in the 14-county Diocese.

In the coming months, the program will be offered throughout the Diocese. Presentations will be posted at www.rcda.org. No registration is required, but it would be helpful and can be done on-line. The following are the initial presentations:
