Diocese will continue issuing announcements

Judge Joseph C. Teresi's caution on speaking publicly about the child abuse cases before him applies only to the attorneys involved (see separate article). Therefore, the Albany Diocese said, it will continue to follow the U.S. bishops' Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, which calls for open and transparent communication about how dioceses are handling cases.

Rev. Kenneth J. Doyle, chancellor for public information, told The Evangelist that the Diocese will continue its practice of announcing determinations regarding priests accused of sexually abusing children. One such announcement appeared in The Evangelist and other media last week.

Since last summer, the Diocese has sent press releases to the general media and published announcements in The Evangelist concerning the removal of priests from ministry or their suspension while investigations are underway. (JB)
