promoting worker justice
Bishop Howard J. Hubbard has joined a national assembly of religious leaders to promote worker justice.
More than 40 religious leaders of several denominations make up the National Interfaith Committee for Worker Justice. As a 10-year veteran of New York State's Labor-Religion Coalition, Bishop Hubbard called himself a "natural candidate" to serve on the new committee.
The committee hopes to improve working conditions in the poultry industry, organize local interfaith committees to advocate for workers' rights, train seminarians and religious employers in worker justice issues, and educate local congregations.
Bishop Hubbard is unable to attend the Chicago-based committee's next meeting, since it conflicts with the kickoff of the Diocese's sesquicentennial celebration, but he hopes to begin his service with them in the spring.
He told The Evangelist that he is looking forward to bringing "insights and opportunities" on worker justice back to the Albany Diocese. (KB)
