At the request of Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger, a collection to assist relief efforts in states ravaged by Hurricane Harvey will be taken up at all Masses the weekend of Sept. 9-10 in parishes of the Diocese of Albany.

All proceeds will be sent to Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany, which will forward donations to Catholic Charities' agencies providing emergency food, shelter, medicine and more in the affected areas. Catholic Charities will also assist with long-term recovery efforts.

"The catastrophic flood and storm damage in Texas and Louisiana has left thousands of people without shelter, without jobs, sometimes without anything more than the clothes on their backs. I ask that you give what you can to help our brothers and sisters suffering in these difficult and often life-altering conditions," said Bishop Scharfenberger. "I also ask that you remember them in prayer as they face the monumental task of rebuilding their lives, as well as their cities and towns."

Donations can also be made at or mailed to Hurricane Harvey Relief, c/o Development Office, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany, 40 North Main Ave., Albany, NY 12203.
