Rev. James Walsh of the diocesan Vocations Team has released updated statistics on the recent Called by Name vocations promotion effort:

•  A total of 750 men were identified by Catholics in the Albany Diocese as having the qualities to make good priests.

•  Of those, 63 men attended a retreat Jan. 13 at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany with Bishop Howard J. Hubbard.

•  Twenty-six of the men were ages 16-21; 19 were ages 22-34; 18 were age 35 and up.

•  Revs. Tom Lawless, Matt Wetsel, Dan Quinn, Michael Taylor, Rendell Torres and Michael Cambi, all ordained in recent years, and seminarians Joe Catalano, Steve Matthews and Michael Dessingue assisted with the retreat.

•  Of the possible priesthood candidates in attendance, 33 of the 63 men indicated an interest in joining a discernment group. There will be three separate discernment groups offered, divided into the aforementioned age groups.

•  An additional seven men indicated an interest in beginning spiritual direction as a part of discernment. Only five of the 63 indicated a desire not to be contacted in the future concerning priesthood.
