  • Knotting cord rosaries keeps retiree busy
    For more than a decade, Nancy Krosky of St. Clare’s parish in Colonie has been making rosaries entirely out of nylon cord — no metal or glass included. Each “bead” of the rosary is formed by creating several knots; even the cross is created entirely of knotted cord.
  • Diocese reviews IMAP and responses on abuse
    In 2004, the Albany Diocese established the Independent Mediation Assistance Program (IMAP) to address the needs of individuals who, as minors, were sexually abused by clergy. The program was one of the first in the country to address the needs of victims and survivors as they sought healing.

    A cluster of people surrounded the reason for Father Kacerguis' enthusiasm: Jesuit Brother Guy Consolmagno, a planetary scientist who is director of the Vatican Observatory.

    As parishes across the Albany Diocese offer Lenten talks, prayer services and retreats, St. Kateri Tekakwitha parish in Schenectady is taking an unusual tack: From March 12-16, the parish will offer a week-long series of prayer experiences on topics like the dignity of work and finding healing after abuse.

    Last week, the Albany Diocese launched a redesigned website in an effort to streamline existing information, provide more intuitive navigation and create moments of "encounter" for visitors to www.rcda.org.

    Three elementary schools across the Albany Diocese will be expanding their pre-kindergarten programs in response to increased interest in their communities, while also making adjustments to the older elementary grades as a result of shifting demographics.
