A funeral Mass was offered Oct. 1 at St. Mary's Church, Glens Falls, for Sister M. Sylvia Rosell, who died Sept. 25. She was 82 and had been a Dominican sister for 59 years.

A native of New Orleans, La., who was raised in Cuba, she taught in schools in Cuba and came to the U.S. in 1960 after all religious orders were expelled from Cuba. She worked with refugees in Miami, then led retreats and did spiritual direction at the Dominican Spiritual Life Center in Niskayuna. She helped to found Still Point House of Prayer in Stillwater in 1971 and led it for 25 years, then worked in a L'Arche community in Syracuse and coordinated outreach services for North Country Ministry in Warrensburg.
