A funeral Mass was offered Aug. 21 in the chapel of St. Joseph’s Provincial House, Latham, for Sister Christine Michael LaFrance, who died Aug. 15. She was 83 and had been a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet for 62 years.

A native of Endicott, N.Y., she served as a nurse at St. Joseph’s Infant Home in Troy and in the infirmary at St. Joseph’s Provincial House. For 49 years, Sister Christine served at St. Mary’s Hospital (now St. Mary’s Healthcare) in Amsterdam, first as a nursing student and then as a clerical worker in social services, a discharge-planning clerk and assistant in the Center for Complementary Therapies.

Called kind, unassuming and generous by her religious order, she valued community and continued to work until a month ago; her later pursuits included earning her certification in healing touch.

Survivors include her sister, Frances Fisher; interment was in Our Lady Queen of Virgins Cemetery, Latham.
