St. Mary's/St. Alphonsus School in Glens Falls shared a lot of news: Students learned about the Chinese New Year from a student's father, who shared customs and traditions and brought "red packets" of "lucky money" for each of the second-graders, given to children by elders as a symbol of passing on a year of good fortune and blessings. Another version is given by children to their elders as a blessing of longevity and a show of gratitude for the New Year. The youngest SMSA students had a hands-on presentation on the Chinese New Year by the World Awareness Children's Museum.
